So, what is this Doula thing that so many pregnant women speak of?
The word ‘Doula’ — pronounced ‘doo-la’ — is a Greek word meaning ‘woman servant or caregiver’.
More recently, it refers to someone who offers emotional and physical support to a woman and her partner before, during and after childbirth.
A Doula (also known as a birth attendant) believes in ‘mothering the mother’.
A Doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience. Her goal is to enable a woman and her partner to have the most satisfying birth experience possible, from pregnancy and into motherhood.
DONA (Doulas of North America) explains how Doulas fit into the birth team:
“Women have complex needs during childbirth. In addition to the safety of modern obstetrical care, and the love and companionship provided by their partners, women need consistent, continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement and respect. They need individualized care based on their circumstances and preferences. The role of the birth doula encompasses the non-clinical aspects of care during childbirth.”
This is the first time we meet. Birth is an intimate experience. Finding the right Doula for your birth helps make your experience more positive and memorable.
During these appointments we will get to know each other more. We will practice relaxation techniques and positions for labor. Including touch therapy and mindfulness*.
*Hypnobabies Moms see below.
I will be on-call exclusively for you 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks following your given due date. This means that you can call me at anytime and I am available to you.
When the birth journey begins, I am there for you and your partner. I help implement and assist in the relaxation techniques learned during the prenatal appointments. Give soothing massages, help with pain relieving positions and offer emotional support.
- You will not be judged
- You can not hurt my feelings
- I will always be honest with you
- I will do everything in my ability to help with your pain and anxiety
- I will help you feel safe
- I cannot speak for you; but I will make sure that you have a voice and I will make sure you are heard
As a Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis Doula, the touch therapy I provide for my Hypno-moms compliments their learned self-hypnosis techniques and creates a safe peaceful loving space that we can bring with us into her birthing time. Working with your Hypnobabies curriculum, I can help in understanding philosophy, explain the importance of positive language and assist in the practice of Hypnobabies 'hypno-tools'. I will also attend your birth rehearsal with you and your partner.
A Mother's Blessing Ceremony, is a spiritual journey to help the mother-to-be transition between seasons in her life. Based on the traditional Navajo Blessingway, a Mother's Blessing is meant to lift and empower the mother-to-be. A Mother's Blessing can be held in place of a baby shower or a separate event. It is a very intimate time for the mother-to-be and her close knit community of women. The circle of women brought to this ceremony are there to support, help guide and prepare her for the upcoming birth journey.
Although the new child in the family is not born of the mother, it is still a season of change. A Mother's Blessing is a wonderful way to celebrate her new journey, support and empower her. It's a way to connect her heart and spirit to this new time with a circle of women embracing her with love and wisdom.
All Cultures Welcomed
A Mother's Blessing is a spiritual journey. The ceremony respects those of all religions and cultures. Each Mother's Blessing is unique and will include as much, or as little, religious and cultural practices as the mother-to-be chooses.
During the Holistic Reiki Healing Therapy Treatment, the client lies fully clothed on a reiki massage table in a relaxed state. Meditative Music is played as the Reiki energy is lovingly and compassionately delivered by healing hands on or over areas of the body that are major energy centers called “chakras” and allows the Universal Reiki energy to flow freely to unblock any blockages and allow Chakra Balancing. This is performed on both front and back. Expecting mothers lay on their side to allow access to the back chakras.

As humans we are continually searching for more effective and less toxic ways of promoting healing and wellness in our own bodies. Animals can also suffer from painful conditions like chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and other problematic health issues just like we do. The same holistic alternatives to healing that we use can be used with our animals. One of these is called animal reiki.
What is Animal Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is the ancient holistic practice of hands-on healing. It originated in Japan and has been used for centuries to provide proven, non-invasive healing for a variety of conditions.
During a reiki session on an animal, the practitioner channels healing energy through her hands directly or indirectly to the animal through light touch. This channeling of “universal life energy” from practitioner to patient helps increase the sick animal’s life energy, which is usually diminished as a result of its illness.
With the natural increase in its life energy provided by the practitioner, the animal is made more comfortable and better able to heal. A typical animal reiki session lasts between 15 and 30 minutes.
